A Very Serious List of Things Worth Ordering Twice

Some things are good. Some things make you seriously consider ordering another one before you’ve even finished the first.

This is not a restaurant guide. There are no stars involved, no elaborate tasting notes and absolutely no attempt at objectivity. Just five things I would happily order again.

01 — The drink that deserved a second round

Pineapple Margarita 🍍

It tasted really good — fruity, a little spicy, with a spicy rim instead of the classic salty one. But if I’m being completely fair, that’s not actually why it deserved a second round.

It was the company. I was out with my brother, having such a good time that at some point I simply wasn’t ready for the evening to end.

And sometimes ordering another drink is just another way of saying:

Can we stay a little longer?

02 — The dessert that made sharing feel like a terrible idea

Raspberry Pistachio Doughnut

First of all, have you ever tried sharing a filled doughnut? It’s destined to be a disaster.

You cut into it, the filling escapes in every possible direction, somebody inevitably gets the better half and suddenly what was supposed to be a lovely little sharing moment becomes a logistical problem.

No. Some foods simply weren’t designed for generosity. And besides… sometimes it’s good to have a little pleasure entirely to yourself. 😉

Get your own doughnut. 😂

03 — The pasta I would book a flight for

Carbonara 🍝

I know what you’re going to say. Carbonara? Really? It’s one of the simplest pasta dishes. Exactly. And that’s what makes a really good one so difficult.

There aren’t twenty ingredients to hide behind. The balance between egg, cheese, guanciale, pepper and pasta has to be just right — and that balance is a very fragile thing.

I can make a pretty damn good carbonara myself. And yes, I’m absolutely saying that with confidence. But when I find one that’s perfect?

Creamy without cream.

Rich without being heavy. Salty, silky, peppery and somehow gone from the plate far too quickly. I’ll come back for it.

And if necessary, I’ll book the flight.

04 — The thing I ordered because everyone else did

Pavlova

I ordered Pavlova for possibly the least sophisticated reason on this entire list: everyone else was doing it. It was everywhere. Everyone seemed obsessed with it. So eventually I gave in to the hype and ordered one myself.

Crispy on the outside, soft and marshmallowy inside, with cream and fruit balancing all that sweetness… This thing is devilish.

Turns out sometimes the hype is absolutely justified.

05 — The one I actually ordered twice

Aperol Spritz

This one requires significantly less analysis.

One Aperol is just never enough. 😉

A very serious conclusion

Maybe the things worth ordering twice
are really just the moments
worth staying for.

Now tell me what you think.

Agree, disagree, or somewhere in between — I’d love to hear your thoughts.
